Today we drove to the historic mining town of Leadville over the Top of the
Rockies Byway. We walked through town and talked to an ex-sheriff who told us
about the town and some things to see.
At the height of the mining boom this was the second largest town in Colorado with a population over 100,000. We went to the National Mining Hall of Fame and saw a couple of old
homes. We had a beer at Periodic
Brewing and went into a resale shop. I
got some women’s magazines for 25 cents each.
On the drive back to Frisco we went by the open pit Climax Mine, a major producer of molybdenum. Then we stopped stopped at Turquoise Lake. When we got to Frisco we walked around town
for some steps and went to Prosit, a German beer bar. We shared a a Hofbrau Marzen beer and then we went to mail Jim's sister two postcards. Dinner was at Ollie’s tonight -- it was $3
burger night.
