9/13/16 - Junction Creek campground, San Juan National Forest, Durango, CO
Today we left camp and drove with the Casita
back on the Million Dollar Highway through Silverton and on to Durango.
Half way between Molas Pass at 10,899 feet and Coal Bank Pass at
10,640 feet we ran into some really bad weather. It started to rain and the temperature was 38 degrees. The rain turned into sleet and driving
on it was really scary. At one point
Jim pulled over to the side of the road so the people behind us could
pass. Our tires slid on the sleet on
the road. After people passed by us
they made the sleet turn to water and we pulled back out and continued on. We were never so glad to be out of the mountains
and sleet and rain and get to Durango. After
getting a site that was recommended to us at
the Junction Creek campground in the San Juan National Forest, we went into town. We went to Animas Brewing, Steamworks Brewing, and Brew Pub &
Kitchen. We walked to a bridge over the
Animas River.
