9/15/16 - Junction Creek Campground, San Juan National Forest, Durango, CO
Today we got up at 6 am to get to the train on
time. We rode the Durango-Silverton
Narrow Gauge Railroad. The weather was perfect. The ride to
Silverton was 4 hours and the ride back was 3.5 hours. The scenery was beautiful! We rode through flat land with lakes, past
streams and thrpugh the mountains with steep drop offs just beyond the railroad
tracks. Along the way we made a whistle
stop for a few hikers that had spent the night in the National Forest. After arriving in Silverton we went to
Avalanche brewing and had pizza and beer for lunch. We saw Jan and Jack from Belton today also. They were riding on a train that left about
5 minutes ahead of us. After returning
to camp we went for a walk. The harvest
M\moon was so big and bright tonight that we didn’t have to use a flashlight.
