8/21/16 - Rifle Gap State Park, CO

We left Yampa River State Park today after being there seven days.  We stopped in Craig and went to the grocery store and WalMart.  My son’s cat, Stoopid, died a couple of days ago and I wanted to send him a card.  We got a campsite at Rifle Gap State Park in Rifle, Colorado.  Jim drove to Rifle Falls State Park but they were full and didn’t have a spot for us to camp in.  They only have 12 sites there.  It was just as well that we didn’t get a site because it is a really busy park. People drive there for day use to walk to the falls. When we got there to hike to them, people were driving in circles to get a spot to park.  We got the last spot in the parking area and the camp host was parking other people along the road in the campground right next to the people who were camping.  I wouldn’t have liked to have all the noise that close to where we were camping.  After hiking to the falls and the caves around them, we drove to Rifle and had a beer at Big Kids Corner Bar and I mailed the card to my son.
