9/3/16 - River Fork Camper and Trailer Park, Lake City, CO

We took showers this morning and they were free.  We are finally in an RV park with showers.  We walked around town after breakfast and got another coffee.  We washed clothes. We had a late lunch in the Casita and then drove up the dirt road to Engineer Pass for 13 ½ miles.  At mile 14 you need to have a 4 wheel drive to go further.  We went to the camp where Jim’s sister, Judy, used to spend her summers since 1977.  The family would often join her.   The camp was improvised using structures from an old mine.  The camp was in really bad shape – many of the structures had been demolished by snow.  After returning to camp we dropped off the Silverado and walked to town.  We met some people from Gainsville, Texas and then we walked to the home of Bruce Vierheller, a longtime friend of the Warrens and Youngmeyers from their camping days up here.  Bruce is now the mayor of Lake City.  I fixed chicken, dressing, mashed potatoes, gravy and English peas for supper.
